The development initiatives in which ARIS participates help to strengthen the scientific research and innovation system in Slovenia. This is not just about implementing individual actions, but also about working together on programmes and projects that link funding, planning, institutional development and cooperation between key stakeholders.

The initiatives address the broader development challenges of the system and contribute to its better integration into the international research and innovation landscape. An important example is ARIS's participation in the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) between 2022 and 2026.

ARIS is involved in strengthening the RDI governance system within the RRP and is implementing actions in two areas: supporting research and innovation programmes for the green transition and digitisation, and promoting international mobility for researchers.

With the new Scientific Research and Innovation Activities Act, the former Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS) was transformed into ARIS. This has extended the Agency's work to innovation.

The programme has provided additional staff and expertise to support the implementation of new tasks, joint training and cooperation between institutions, in particular between ARIS and SPIRIT.

The value of the funds from the RRP: EUR 1,632,047.06

As part of the development activities, a project is underway to set up an RDI Hub, funded by the RRP until mid-2026.

The project includes the pilot establishment of an online and analytical hub for research, development and innovation. After the pilot phase, the system will be upgraded and further developed with additional funding.

The value of the funds from the RRP: EUR 237,650.00

ARIS supports major research and innovation programmes that bring together public research organisations and companies.

The programmes are designed to develop solutions for the green transition and digital transformation and foster long-term cooperation between the research sector and industry.

The measure is currently co-financing four consortium programmes: two on the green transition, two on the digital transition. The programmes are at Technology Readiness Level TRL 3–6.

The value of the funds from the RRP: EUR 14,680,088.14

An important set of activities is aimed at promoting the international mobility of Slovenian researchers and the greater involvement of Slovenian organisations in the European Research Area.

The measure complements the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme under the Horizon Europe programme.

ARIS supports two sets of projects:

  • 22 mobility projects for researchers who have not received funding from Horizon Europe,
  • 12 reintegration projects for researchers returning to long-term work in the Slovenian research area following a period of mobility.

Reintegration projects last up to two years, mobility and reintegration projects up to three years.

The value of the funds from the RRP: EUR 5,769,227.00
