The relationship between scientific research and the challenges of modern society must be deliberately fostered and strengthened.
Communicating science increases the visibility of research achievements and innovations and promotes dialogue between the research community and the wider society.
ARIS does this through three thematically linked sets of activities:
- ARIS Day
The Agency's main annual event for showcasing the most prominent research achievements and discussing the role of science and innovation in society. - Excellence in Science
Each year, the project highlights outstanding research achievements and raises their public profile. - Supporting the popularisation and communication of science
ARIS supports the development of innovative approaches for the popularisation, promotion and communication of Slovenian science at home and abroad through public calls.
ARIS Day is the Agency's main annual event to showcase the its achievements and the most prominent research it supports.
The event opens the debate on the role of science and innovation in society and promotes networking between researchers, industry, decision-makers and other stakeholders.
The programme showcases selected outstanding research achievements, current topics in scientific research and innovation, and issues related to the development of an open and internationally comparable research and innovation environment.
The event includes expert debates, presentations of research stories and the presentation of the Excellence in Science Awards.
Excellent in Science is a project implemented by the Agency as part of its activities to communicate science.
Each year, ARIS invites research programme and project leaders to submit proposals for selection. The proposed achievement represents a significant scientific or socio-economic advance, or a patent or other high-profile outcome of scientific research work supported by the Agency and made public.
The selection is open to achievements published in the current or previous year.
The most outstanding achievements are proposed to the ARIS Science Council for endorsement by the members of the Scientific Research Councils of each discipline. The awards are presented at the ARIS Day event.
The Excellence in Science 2025 competition selected 28 achievements.
ARIS promotes innovative approaches to increasing public engagement with science and strengthens science communication and outreach both domestically and internationally.
(Co-)funding is through a periodic call, supporting:
- communication of Slovenian science at home and abroad,
- linking scientific achievements and research communities,
- developing or upgrading innovative activities to promote and communicate science,
- disseminating the results of scientific research to different audiences.
Special emphasis is placed on connecting Slovenian researchers at home and abroad, long-term networking and cooperation, knowledge sharing and intergenerational research networking.
