             goMapMan is an open web-access-
ible resource for gene functional an-
notations in the plant sciences. The
core of goMapMan consists of plant
species genes (such as the model
             plant arabidopsis thaliana and some
             agronomically important crops),
which are described with the MapMan
             ontology gene function concepts. The
             inclusion of orthologue information
             allows for simultaneous visualisation
             of these gene annotations across
several plant species, which in turn
             facilitates the time intensive manu-
al curation of these descriptions for
             the end user. additionally, automatic
             consolidation of gene annotations for
             different plant species through use
             of this orthologue group information
             is implemented. integration of ex-
             ternal knowledge about genes from
publically available resources and the www.gomapman.org

data analysis tools advance our un-
derstanding of how plants globally re-
spond to various external stimuli, e.g.
             drought or plant pathogen infection.
